RACEGOERS will be able to banish the winter blues at Wetherby's `Caribbean Saturday' this weekend.

With cocktails available in the Caribbean Marquee and the Paradise Steel Band providing the musical entertainment, there's an exotic backdrop to the action on the track which features The Buy Your Tickets Online at wetherbyracing.co.uk Handicap Hurdle over two miles with prizemoney of £18,000, while the longest race of the afternoon is The Rocom European Communications Handicap Chase, a £12,000 contest for stayers over three miles and one furlong.

Gates open at 10.30am, prior to the seven-race programme which begins at 12.40pm.

Conditional jockeys and amateur riders take part in the opening race, The Racing Post `Hands and Heels' Handicap Hurdle - one of a series of twelve such races held throughout Britain during the current campaign over Jumps designed to encourage young riders not to resort to using the whip.

A points system operates throughout this series, with conditional jockeys, Richard Killoran and Tjade Collier leading the way. Collier is attached to the yard of West Yorkshire trainer Sue Smith, who recorded three winners at Wetherby on Boxing Day.

Saturday's card also includes a qualifying race in this season's European Breeders Fund Novices' Hurdle Series, in which the first four horses will be eligible to compete in the £60,000 Final of this national series at Sandown Park in March.

The giant totesport screen will be situated opposite the main stands.
