ALMONDBURY Wesleyans re-ignited their push for the Central League title as they took points at Thurstonland, while leaders Azaad slipped spectacularly.

Wesleyans remain in second place after a draw, but now only trail table-toppers Azaad by one point as they were ousted for just 55 as fourth in the table Green Moor beat them by 135 runs.

Chasing a target of 190-7 in which Nigel Dowkes top-scored with 39 not out, Azaad were soon trouble against Matthew Scrivener (three for 17) before Mark Elsworth scooped four for 11 late in the day to skittle the visitors.

It remains a three team race as Thornhill & Westborough are just a point behind Wesleyans in third as they scored a six wicket win at Woodfield Park.

Penistone meanwhile, beat Holmbridge thanks largely to a century from Mick Brown, who cracked 108 in the 265-7 total.

Holmbridge made a brave fist of the chasing down the hefty target Andrew Macleod making 60, Robert Parr 47 and Scott Whitehead 40, but they ran out of time with the last pair at the wicket and had to settle for a point at 251-9.

Thilina Ambepitiya top-scored wtih 77 as Birkby Rose Hill beat Cartworth Moor.

The Tinker Cup final came to an early halt due to bad light on Sunday.

Edgerton & Dalton batted first and made 235-7, while Birkby Rose Hill’s reply reached 141-5 when the game was curtailed with 14 overs remaining.

The match will resume on Sunday, August 26, with a 11.30am start, due to Edgerton being involved in this weekend’s CopyMark 20/20 competition finals day this Sunday.
