THE Drakes Huddersfield Cricket Executive have ruled that the League’s programme, scheduled for Saturday, May 26 – the same Town day are at Wembley – will go ahead as normal.

It would have been impossible to put the fixtures back to the Sunday of that weekend, as May 27 is the date for the second round of the Sykes Cup and Paddock Shield, while the following weekend is the Bank Holiday when clubs are already playing on Saturday and Monday. This weekend is also a double header for Premiership clubs.

Reigning Premiership Two champions Kirkburton have quickly taken over top spot again after just three matches of this year’s campaign.

Matt Crookes had a good all-round game for the champions, taking three for 26 and then top-scoring with 60 as Burton beat Broad Oak by two wickets, Ben Jebson seeing them home with an unbeaten 46 and Gavin Smith 42.

Newly-promoted Honley hit the day’s highest tally of 262-6, thanks to Chris Woodhead (74) and Simon England (48) before Ed Kaye and Tom Willitts each took three wickets to hold Meltham to 114-8 in reply.

Scholes’ Josh Brook was one of the day’s leading bowlers when he bagged six for 46 to dismiss Shepley for 180, after Phil Birkhead (72) and Eden Pearson (58) had steered the Chapelgaters to 236.

In the Championship, old warhorse Mike Bocarro scored a half-century and then took four for 41 to bring Holmfirth victory over Clayton West, while Hall Bower’s Mark Beaumont was another player to enjoy a good day all round with six for 18 against Thongsbridge and an unbeaten 26 in his side’s winning total.
