DRAKES leaders Shepley will have to overcome Kirkburton if they want to reach a third Sykes Cup final on the trot.
Danny Glover’s fine young side have been drawn at home in the first semi-final of the arrowselfdrive.com sponsored competition on Sunday, July 7.
The second semi-final will be played at Swallow Lane on Sunday, July 14, between Golcar and the Drakes League champions from Hoylandswaine.
Shepley will be hoping Dan and Greg Wood – who hit 129 in the quarter-final victory against holders Delph – can carry their form into the last four along with Tom Denton and the spin twins of Danny Wood and South African signing Sean Savage.
Kirkburton captain Greg Buckley will be hoping to make a second appearance in the final (he was there with Elland) and he not only has a solid batting unit but the vast experience and all-round talent of Matt Garrety, who hit a half century in their quarter-final win against Barkisland, when Craig Fletcher had three wickets.
Skipper Steve Whitwam – 114 in their win over Lascelles Hall – will be key for Golcar in the second semi, while John Sadler will be hoping Aussie Michael Cranmer maintains his sizzling form for Swaine.
In the Paddock Shield, the first semi is Kirkburton v Broad Oak (July 7), while the second features Shepley against Linthwaite.
The Oddfellows Cup quarter-finals on June 30 are Almondbury Wes v Broad Oak, Moorlands v Emley, Cawthorne v Paddock (July 7) and Lascelles Hall v Slaithwaite.
In the second XI Earnshaw Cup, the draw is Shepley v Delph, Hall Bower v Shelley, Linthwaite v Moorlands and Rastrick v Denby Dale.
