ALMONDBURY Wesleyans are the latest Huddersfield club to achieve the Clubmark Accreditation Award.
The Arrow Central League club have three senior teams and also attract up to 120 junior cricketers aged from six upwards to boast seven juniors teams playing in the Sellers Huddersfield Junior League.
The Kaye Lane club also have 20 fully qualified ECB Level 1, 2 and 3 coaches which helped Wesleyans be recognised by the ECB for Clubmark.
All government investment (and Lottery funding) in local cricket is now almost entirely reserved for clubs who have Clubmark recognition, and Wesleyans are now one of just a handful in the area to achieve that status.
The ECB’s West Yorkshire Development manager, Steve Archer, presented the Clubmark award to Wesleyans’ cricket manager Ian Hales, saying: “This is a great achievement and confirms that Almondbury Wesleyans are one of the leading clubs in Huddersfield, and we made the right choice when we selected them to be a ‘focus club’ for the area.”
Hales, who has overall responsibility for cricket, development and child welfare, said: “We not only run things the right way, but we can now show that we do, and have the paperwork to prove it.”
