CUMBERWORTH United will be a welcome addition to the Drakes League next summer.

That’s the view of League chairman Roger France after the arrowselfdrive Central League club were unanimously voted in as replacements for Micklehurst.

The Premier Section side will join the Cedar Court Conference from the start of next season, following Cawthorne’s admission this year in place of Kexborough (now South Yorkshire League).

“A Drakes delegation visited Cumberworth to inspect the ground, speak to the committee and chat with players and we were very pleased with what we found,” explained France.

“They might not be the biggest club in the world, but they have been on the go for many, many years, they are a strong club in the Central League and they have a very decent playing record.

“We had no hesitation in recommending them to our member clubs to come in and fill the vacancy we have next year (Micklehurst are returning to the Saddleworth League), and the vote allows them time to put in their resignation to the Central League.”

The Drakes League’s White Rose Trophy side are at home to the Aire/Wharfe League on July 17 and are looking for a venue

Clubs interested in hosting the Under 21 side should contact either League executive secretary Trevor Atkinson or team manager Norman Clee, who would also welcome suggestions of players for possible selection.

Clubs have been reminded scoresheets must be returned to the League and Examiner on time – and also telephoned to the relevant agencies – after £140 of fines we handed out over the first two weekends of the season.

It was confirmed clubs in the Frank Platt Championship and Cedar Court Conference will play identical back-to-back fixtures on Monday May 30 and Saturday June 1. In those sections, clubs play each other three times and it just happens the extra set of fixtures follow on.
