ELLAND are planning a ‘Four x Two’ Anniversary Dinner at the club next month to celebrate a unique event in Huddersfield Cricket League history.

In the seasons 1979 and 1989, Elland actually completed a clean sweep across the board, winning both the First and Second Eleven Championships, along with the Sykes Cup and Paddock Shield.

And to commemorate the event, the club are organising a reunion dinner in the Baines Hall, on Saturday, September 19 when all players, officials and spectators associated with those successful seasons have been invited to attend.

Already organisers are confident of around 120 people attending, with some coming from far and away, such as Kenny Lumb who is coming all the way from South Africa.

Other well-known figures from the glory years include Nottinghamshire batsman R E Dexter, Yorkshire’s Richard Blakey and dad Brian, John Duffy and Vinny Mylett, Dave Wadsworth, Brian Rudkin, ex-skipper Phil Wilkinson, wicketkeeper Ian Kenworthy and many more.

Former Examiner Sports Editor John Gledhill will be the guest speaker.
