HONLEY’S hopes of appearing in a Lord’s final ended in a watery ‘grave’ last Sunday, when their ECB Knockout second round tie against Wollaton was rained off just after 3pm.

At that point the visitors were 164-6 after 40.1 overs, with their top half-dozen batsmen back in the tent and with Harlon Haye having overs in hand.

He had already bowled six overs, conceding just 13 runs while picking up a wicket, one of four caught behind by keeper Richard Jakeman.

Unfortunately, the game was abandoned, leaving the result to be decided on a bowl-out which Honley lost 2-1, Johnny Butterfield the only Honley player to hit.
