TOMORROW’S match of the day in the Drakes League Premiership has to be at Delph & Dobcross, where defending champions Honley cross the Pennines bidding to bounce back from their opening-day loss to Elland.

Last season’s long-time front-runners Golcar will also be keen to get some points on the board when they visit Skelmanthorpe, who had a thrilling opening day win over Shepley, who in turn face a difficult test at Barkisland.

In the Conferences, all eyes will be on new boys Hoylandswaine, who entertain Paddock.

Swaine got away to a dream start by beating Hall Bower.

“We couldn’t have got away to a better start, and obviously we are delighted,” said secretary and first teamer Phil Chapman.

“Two of our new signings, John Ashton and Mark Wright, put on 249 and they accelerated really well at the right time, adding 100 in the last 10 overs.

“And it was brilliant to see our own Ryan Copley also get a half-century, while our skipper Darren Lockwood reckons it’s the first time since 1986 that he’s played a league game where he neither had to bat nor bowl!

“We’re expecting some tougher challenges ahead, especially when we play Shelley and Linthwaite (the latter have three former Swaine players in the side), but we’re very pleased after the first week.”
