HUDDERSFIELD’S Under 18s gave their rivals from the Bradford League a bit of a thumping in their first match of the new season at Thongsbridge.

Having put Bradford in to bat, the visitors were soon in trouble with skipper Jack Hendy and Tim Taylor reducing them to 59-5 with a couple of wickets apiece.

It was a position Bradford were hardly going to recover from, and it was only down to a battling 35 from No9 batsman Hisan Ahmed that the visitors were able to set any sort of target, being dismissed for 136 with four overs unused.

Hendy used six bowlers including himself, and all were among the wickets, Broad Oak spinner Ian Walker posting the best figures with two for 17 from 10 overs.

Bradford had an early success, when they got rid of in-form Ashton Blakey with only seven scored, but that brought Rohan Randhawa in to partner his Meltham teammate Will Fraine and between them put on 84 for the second wicket.

Randhawa fell for 35 before Taylor (15) and Fraine put on 30, taking Huddersfield to within sight of their target.

Fraine finished unbeaten with an excellent 71, including 13 fours from 78 deliveries to steer his side home by seven wickets and an excellent victory over what is traditionally one of the strongest teams in the competition.

Huddersfield’s next game is away to York on June 17.
