HUDDERSFIELD’S junior cricketers are warming up for the annual Lord’s Taverners Cricket Festivals which get under way next week.

Mike Jagger’s Under 15s, who have been quite successful in recent years, start with a home game against North Yorkshire at Skelmanthorpe on Thursday, July 29, followed by games against Leeds at Methley (August 2), Pontefract at Glasshoughton (August 3) and York at Rastrick (August 4).

The 15-boy squad is: Ian Walker (Shepley), Charlie Mitchell (Kirkheaton), George Sommerville, Tom Walker, Tim Taylor (all Lascelles Hall), Danny Firth (Denby Dale), Owais Hussain (Paddock), Alex Daniel (Marsden), Joe White (Green Moor), Lewis Richardson (Crigglestone), Danny Wood (Clayton West), Rohan Randhawa, Shahil Brahm-Bhatt (both Almondbury Wesleyans), Eden Pearson (Scholes), Jack Hendy (Golcar).

All matches start at 1pm.

Before then, however, the Under 13s start their campaign next Monday at Almondbury Wesleyans, before moving to play at Brodsworth on Tuesday, and finally at Denby Dale on Wednesday.

Manager Geoff Barnard has selected a 14-boy squad with three reserves on standby in case of injury or illness.

Matthew Rowles is skipper, and the rest of the squad is: Joe Marsden, Harvey Booth, Toby Booth, Lewis Bradley, Louis Brook, Matthew Crookes, Ben Earnshaw, Alex Farrar, John Keeling, Josh Kilner, Saquib Matlub, George Oakley, Ryan Wadsworth.

Reserves: Gregg Cooke, Tom Payne, Will Sykes.

The Schools’ Under 13 side (many of whom are included in the Taverners) were group winners in the Yorkshire Schools’ Cup and now go forward to the finals in early September after wins over Rotherham and Spen Valley.
