A STUNNING century from wicketkeeper Kamran Mohammed led Birkby Rose Hill to glory in the CG Autos Allsop Cup final at Almondbury Wesleyans.

Opponents Woodfield Park simply had to no answer to the hard-hitting No6 batsman who plundered a man-of-the match-winning 121 not out, peppered with nine massive sixes and 11 fours, in a tremendous display of controlled aggression.

Known as a batsman who favours the ‘big hit’ Kamran came to the crease with his side in major trouble at 26-4 and batted sensibly in the early part of his innings, picking up the singles and late cutting through point to great effect, when Woodfield bowler Shabir Ahmed gave him too much width.

John Stanger was undoubtedly the pick of Woodfield’s bowling attack, but after completing his 12-over stint, seven of which were maidens, while picking up one for 16, Kamran and his partner Faisal Javed (51) declared ‘open season’ on the four-pronged Police attack.

Twice Kamran hoisted straight sixes over the houses and into Kaye Lane as he suddenly went aerial, as he and Javed put on 130 for the fifth wicket.

Javed also joined in the fun with eight boundaries in his 44-ball half-century as Woodfield’s attack visibly wilted under the onslaught.

Opening bowler Tokir Sura returned to the attack and finished with five for 47, but couldn’t find a way to beat Kamran whose 121 came up from just 87 deliveries, and Birkby’s 241-8 total looked likely to be a major challenge, on a deck which always seemed to have something in it for the bowlers.

Mark Askham (44) and Mark Heywood (55) gave Woodfield Park a good start after losing Shabir cheaply, but once they were parted the rest followed quickly, and the result was never really in doubt.

Adnan Mohammed finished with five for 39 from nine overs as Woodfield Park were dismissed for 171, but there was only ever going to be one man-of-the-match in Birkby hero Kamran Mohammed.
