WILL FRAINE will be seeking a hat trick of winners’ medals when he and his Meltham teammates take on Slaithwaite in Monday’s Romida Philip Oldfield Under 17 final at Marsden.

The hugely-talented Fraine has already steered the Huddersfield Under 15s to glory in the Lord’s Taverners Tournament, where he fired 59 in the final against the Heavy Woollen side at Methley.

And a couple of weeks prior to that, he skippered Meltham’s Under 15s to glory in the Romida Hills Supplies Under 15 Cup with a man-of-the-match winning unbeaten 55 in the victory over Golcar.

Now the son of Honley batsman Michael, will be gunning for another medal at the higher age group level.

The Oldfield final (formerly the Walker Cup) is now a traditional part of the Bank Holiday weekend and organisers will be hoping for good weather, for what is normally a very well attended climax to the Under 17 season.

As well as Fraine, Meltham can also boast first team experience through captain Jack Wallis and Alex Clegg, while their opponents Slaithwaite will be hoping for major contributions from their senior players like first teamer Adbul Wahid and second teamers Harry Garside (who also captains the Hill Top side) and wicketkeeper Lewis Bradley.

The match ball sponsor is Mrs Susan Oldfield and the game starts at 1pm at the Hemplow ground, with admission for adults £1.50, £1 concessions and 50p for juniors.
