MOHAMMED KAMRAN lashed the quickest half-century of the summer as Birkby Rose Hill warmed up for the Allsop Cup final with a comprehensive win over Cartworth Moor in the Central League Section A programme.

Faisal Javed top scored with 72, after a useful 40 from opener Tahir Iqbal, but it was Kamran’s rapid-fire 50 not out, made from just 17 deliveries, which helped Birkby post a 35-over total of 181-5.

Apart from Ben Busfield and Andrew Mitchell, the bowlers all came in for some ‘tap’ – especially Scott Bissett who went for 47 runs in just three overs.

In reply Cartworth were dismissed for 102, Nasim Awan taking five for 18 from 10 overs as Birkby Rose Hill leapfrogged Cartworth into top spot in Division A.

By contrast, fellow Cup finalists Woodfield Park were going down by eight wickets at Leymoor, where Mark Coulson made an unbeaten 89 and Dean Dyson 35 not out as the Golcar side raced to 157-2 in 19.3 overs.

And that was all they needed to overhaul the police team’s earlier 156-7 tally in which Mark Askham’s 60 was the best batting performance.
