RASTRICK are on the lookout for players to boost their Cedar Court Conference campaign.

Matthew Lambert is again skipper of the side, which will include the highly-rated all-rounder Ateeq Rehman, who won the sectional bowling prize in 2010 with 54 wickets at an average of 16.96.

On top of that, Rehman was also Rastrick’s leading run-maker with 774 in the league and Sykes Cup, which included six half-centuries and a top-score of 134 not out against Thongsbridge.

Lambert is hoping for more of the same from his English-qualified all-rounder, while the club are also hopeful of signing a Sri Lankan spinner as they bid to significantly improve on last year’s disappointing next-to-bottom finish.

Although the Round Hill club still boast a healthy number of juniors in the Under 11 and Under 13 age groups, club representative and groundsman John Edge explained: “We are a bit thin on the ground at Under 15 and particularly Under 17, which is why we have a shortage of players coming through into senior cricket.

“Anyone wishing to come and play at Rastrick would be welcome to join us at our net practice at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School, which gets under way next Wednesday (January 28) between 8pm and 9pm.”

Following on from the heartbreak at Lascelles Hall, where the club had their clubhouse completely destroyed by arsonists in December, Hoylandswaine are the latest club to be targeted by thieves and vandals, having had their tackle shed broken into.
