TWENTY/20 cricket is in the spotlight.

The ICC World Twenty/20 is about to start, the domestic county competition is already under way and now the Romida Twenty/20 is poised to be a big hit.

The first set of fixtures for Drakes League clubs are scheduled on Tuesday night (6.30) in six pools, all named after Test cricketers from Huddersfield.

It’s the third year of the competition which replaced the Examiner Mini Cricket, Scholes winning the inaugural event and Delph & Dobcross now the defending champions, and with the weather set fair Tuesday should prove entertaining.

Perhaps the most fiercely contested ties will be up the Holme Valley, where a quartet of Premiership sides face each other.

Holmfirth will have big-hitting Carl Fletcher on duty – following his record six sixes in one over off Micklehurst’s Tom Whittle in the Sykes Cup – when they face league champions Honley at Bridge Fold.

Then up the hill at Chapelgate, joint Drakes League leaders Scholes face Shepley, who knocked them out of the Heavy Woollen Cup only a couple of weeks ago and are the only side to defeat James Noble’s new-look side in any competition so far.
