REIGNING Drakes League champions Scholes are hunting silverware again this season when they entertain Yorkshire League heavyweights Scarborough in the semi-finals of the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy on Sunday (1.00).

It is the only opportunity for skipper James Noble’s side to take anything out of this season, but they will need to be on top form at Chapelgate against the seasiders, who are fourth in the table in the Yorkshire League.

One likely plus for Scholes is that Yorkshire opener Adam Lyth is probably taken up with county commitments, and will be one star name less to worry about.

The East coast club edged out Treeton from the South Riding League by only four runs in the previous round, while Scholes had a much easier passage against Woodhouse Grange from the York Senior League.

Having had an indifferent start in the League this season and now too far adrift to catch up with the leaders in the Drakes Premiership, Scholes will be keen to make up for their Romida Sykes Cup semi-final defeat and the loss of their second team in the Spectrum Interiors Paddock Shield.

Scholes also failed to progress in the Romida Twenty/20, so the Black Sheep is the final chance to get among the trophies this season.

Sunday is set to be a busy day around the district with the semi-finals of the Oddfellows and Earnshaw Cups also taking place.

Kexborough entertain Linthwaite and Emley Clarence play host to Meltham in the Oddfellows, while Lepton Highlanders are at home to Lascelles Hall and Clayton West entertain Hall Bower in the Earnshaw Cup (for second XIs) all at 1pm.

The Romida Twenty/20 Cup semis, originally scheduled for tonight, will now take place on Tuesday, with the finals as per schedule next Sunday.
