RECORDS tumbled in the Arrow Central League when Silkstone’s new second team topped 450!

In their first campaign in Section E and skippered by 17-year-old Daniel Walker, Silkstone rattled up 452-6 in their 45 overs against Calder Grove B.

They then dismissed the visitors for just 38 – giving them a league-best victory margin of 414.

Destroyers with the bat were 17-year-old Jake Rennison and newcomer Nigel Bentley, who each topped 130 and shared in a fantastic partnership of 250.

Bentley, who plays for the football section at Silkstone and has signed on for the first time for the cricket season, hit eight sixes and 14 fours in his contribution.

Oliver Corcoran, another teenager, hit 69 not out at the end and shared in an unbroken partnership with 16-year-old Tom Horsefield (29 not out) as Silkstone bettered a 10-an-over rate.

When shell-shocked Calder Grove batted, they were whistled out by Nick Armitage, the opener who claimed five for three from eight overs.

“This is our first season and we’ve got a very young side, so to post such a massive score is great for everyone at the club,” said skipper Walker.

“Nigel Bentley hit his first ball for six over mid on and just continued to bludgeon the bowling as we piled up the runs.

“It’s difficult to stop someone when they’ve got their eye in like that and Jake Rennison played absolutely beautifully for his maiden century as well.

“Nick Armitage then did very well with the ball and we had another six points to take us second in the table.”

He added: “The first team have been promoted to Section C and we’ve started the Seconds to try and develop the club.

“I’ve taken on the captaincy and we’ve got some good young lads playing week in and week out.”
