THE Huddersfield Cricket Coaches Association are running two top courses this winter at Newsome HIgh School.

One is a coaches course, aimed at those who have already been on a coaching assistant course or are players wishing to gain a higher qualification, and begins in December.

The other is a coaching assistant course aimed at parents, volunteers, young players and teachers and starts on Sunday, November 9.

For the coaches course, candidates must be 17½ at the start of the course under ECB rules.

The course will cover: motives, delivery quality practice, organising coaching sessions, building relationships and establishing control.

Anyone applying for this course must have an up-to-date First Aid certificate and have attended a Good Practice and Child Protection course.

The courses are being run by Richard Horner and Ian Hales, and the cost of the coaches course is £210, the first session of which starts on Sunday, December 7.

There are still half-a-dozen vacancies on the course, and anyone wishing to take up a place should contact Tom Walton at Newsome High on 01484 226570.

The coaching assistant course (starting on November 9) includes: coaching motives; roles and responsibilities, warm-up and cool down routines and establishing control and monitoring the behaviour of players.

The assistants course is £180, and there are still 10 places left to be filled.

Both are interesting, active courses where all participants take part.

The closing date for applications to either course is tomorrow, although Walton is prepared to extend it if necessary.
