THE Drakes League have three teams through to the Heavy Woollen Cup quarter-finals after some excellent displays in the second round.

Unfortunately, all three of them, Barkisland, Shelley and Shepley, have been drawn away in the quarter-finals, as have Slaithwaite, the only side from this area into the last eight of the Crowther Cup (for second teams).

Barkisland had a brilliant win over a talented and tough Birstall side.

Alex Scholefield (63) and Dave Weston (43) steered them to a four-wicket success, after Darren Robinson had restricted Birstall to 145 all out by taking five for 62, as Nick Bresnan (brother of Yorkshire and England’s Tim) made a top score of 43.

Gary Eastwood was leading run-scorer for Shelley with 46 and Allan Greenwood 32 as the Westerley Lane side made 222-8 at Liversedge, who were always behind the clock (Greenwood also taking three for 43 as the Central Yorkshire Leaguers were held at 197-8).

The third side through were Shepley, who defeated fellow Drakes League side Scholes, SP Singh (54) and Ashley Brothers 41no leading the way to a 232-7 total.

James Noble replied with 37, but Scholes were dismissed for 206, Romain Grenville taking four for 40.

Sadly, Skelmanthorpe were never in the hunt against holders Wrenthorpe, who piled up 277-8, David Paynter hitting 132, before the Lidgett Laners were dismissed for 101, despite Max Joice making 54.

In the Crowther Cup, the only Huddersfield success came from Slaithwaite, where Graham Holroyd hit an unbeaten 95 and John Hey took four for 34 in the victory over Wakefield Thornes.

In the Heavy Woollen Cup quarter-finals Barkisland now visit Bradford League champions Woodlands, Shelley are away to Barnsley and Shepley away to Baildon.

In the Crowther, Slaithwaite visit Townville.

All matches are scheduled for June 7.
