HUDDERSFIELD Under 13s made a promising start to the Lord’s Taverners tournament, with a nine-wicket stroll over the Wetherby League at Almondbury Wesleyans.

Batting first, Wetherby had reached 32-3 when rain held up play for two and a half hours, but when they resumed Huddersfield continued to chip away with wickets at regular intervals as only Jonny Haslem resisted with an excellent half-century in an all out total of 97.

Matthew Crookes, Toby Booth and Saquib Matlub were Huddersfield’s wicket-takers.

When Huddersfield replied they lost John Keeling early in the innings, but Matt Rowles (50no) and Harvey Booth (40no) knocked off the target in 20 overs to give the home side a splendid start.
