CUMBERWORTH cut the gap on Conference Two leaders Lepton, despite Dale Winterbottom’s all-round efforts for the Highlanders.

Batting first, the League newcomers could only manage 123-9, of which Carlo Whitaker made 55 of those, as Winterbottom struck with six for 32.

When Lepton replied, the former first team skipper was at the forefront again scoring 30, but even he could hold the side together in the face of Josh Kilner who ran through the Highlanders team with the remarkable figures of seven for 8, probably one of the best bowling efforts of the summer, to skittle Lepton for 79.

And Shelley kept their promotion hopes alive with a 60-run win over Almondbury, Andrew Kilner coming closest to a ton in the Second Eleven competition, falling just one short of his century, while Josh Jones (70) helped the Westerley Lane side make 230-6 before the visitor were dismissed for 170.

Championship front-runners Cawthorne were beating by Hall Bower who set a target of 161-8, Dominic Harding leading the way with 42 before the Barnsley side were restricted to 136-9, Andrew Kaye scoring an unbeaten 53, while for the winners Andrew Peaker claimed three for 15.

Clayton West stayed in the promotion hunt with a 10-wicket win over Lascelles Hall, but Holmfirth missed a trick as they lost by seven wickets to Delph & Dobcross.

In the top flight, Honley retained top spot after beating Kirkburton by 40 runs, Simon England (69 and Jimmy Green 61 helping the home side to 217-7 before Burton were held short at 177-9.

Hoylandswaine remain a point behind after their win at Scholes, Ben Hoyle taking five for 10 in Scholes 151 all out (Josh Brook making 65), while Dan Hoyle made 51 not out in the winning reply.

Meanwhile, Golcar kept their Premiership title hopes alive with a 62-run win over Elland, Rob Read scoring 64, Urfan Ali 41 and Michael Illingworth 38 in the 227-9 total for the winners.
