Thongsbridge and Clayton West will be getting to know each other very well this weekend.

Not only do they meet at Miry Lane in the Jedi Sports Championship on Saturday – when leaders Thongsbridge will be aiming to take another step towards the Drakes Premeirship.

But they will meet again in a high noon showdown at Delph on Sunday in the final of the Total Indoor Cricket Solutions T20 Shield.

Thongsbridge may be 20 points clear of their rivals in the league standings, but expect the action to be too close to call this weekend.

When it comes to runs, Thongsbridge skipper Ben Raven-Hill has scored more than anyone in either side so far with 595 at a fraction under 50.

And the Holme Valley promotion hopefuls also have the leading wicket-taker on view in Zimbabwean leg-spinner Brandon Mavuta.

The 19-year-old captain of the Zimbabwe age-group World Cup team has picked up 51 wickets so far at 14.06 and will be a key figure if Thongsbridge are to collect six points before making up for last year’s defeat in the T20 Shield final.

While Thongsbridge boast the top run-getter and wicket-taker, Clayton West undoubtedly have the leading all-rounder in Kiwi Kyle Hitchman.

From the well-known Lower Hutt area near Wellington, the 25-year-old needs 35 runs to hit 500 at an average of 36, to add to his 41 seam wickets at just over 16.

Far from being a one-man team, though, Clayton have another batsman in David Swan over the 400-run mark and, when it comes to the bowling, there are few around with more experience than Craig Glover – formerly of Shepley’s all-conquering team – who has 33 wickets and 12.52 and the ability to win any match.

Thongsbridge also have an additional batsman over 400 runs in wicket-keeper Richard Marshall, while they can possibly claim the edge in bowling depth, as Zafar Iqbal has 29 wickets at 19.41, fellow opener Tom Raven-Hill 24 victims at 23 and left-arm bowler Will Reeves 21 wickets.

Drakes League leaders Delph stage the T20 finals day and play Broad Oak in the Trophy final at 4pm on Sunday.

Delph take their unbeaten record to Scholes on Saturday.

In the Cedar Court Conference, leaders Mirfield Parish Cavaliers visit Mirfield in the village derby.
