Drakes Huddersfield League champions Scholes have been handed the toughest possible draw in the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy.

The Chapelgate side, who won the county title when they were last involved in 2010, have been drawn at home to holders Yorkshire Academy in the first round on June 19.

Yorkshire Academy defeated Methley in last season’s final, winning by six wickets with four balls to spare as they chased down a target of 220-9.

It was the first time the Academy had competed in the champions’ trophy, and they beat Hoylandswaine and Treeton to make the showpiece.

The county youngsters will be favourites again, although James Noble has a talented young side at his disposal and they are formidable opposition on their own small Holme Valley ground.

Scholes beat York in the 2010 final at Treeton, after knocking out Scarborough at Chapelgate in the semi-finals.

Their only other appearance in the final was back in 1997, when they were defeated by Pickering.

Should Scholes get through, they would be at home in the semi-finals to the winnes of the tie between Methley and York.

Draw: Sheriff Hutton Bridge v Pudsey St Lawrence, Methley v York, Scholes v Yorkshire Academy, Aston Hall v Otley.

Meanwhile, Whitley Hall won the ECB Indoor 6-a-side Yorkshire final and will represent the YCB against Lancashire on Sunday, February 14, for the chance to go to the National finals at Lord’s in March.

Whitley Hall beat Woodlands first of all, after restricting them to 43-4 in 12 overs. Whitley Hall took just 5.1 overs to reach 44-2.

Richmondshire then totalled 104-5 in 12 overs to beat Woodlands (97-3) to set up the final.
