Shepley and Hoylandswaine could be set for a major clash in the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy.

But both Drakes Huddersfield Cricket League clubs have been handed tough first-round ties in the 2014 competition – which is basically the Champions League for Yorkshire club sides.

Shepley, as newly-crowned Drakes champions, went into the draw hoping for a tie at Marsh Lane but, instead, were given a trip to York, who are the Yorkshire League champions and traditionally one of the strongest clubs in the county.

Hoylandswaine are in the draw as holders and have also been sent away from home to Bradford League champions Cleckheaton.

Should Shepley and Swaine both win their ties, which have to be played by June 8, they will meet in the semi-finals (to be played by July 20).

Hoylandswaine held sway last summer when the two clubs met in the final of the arrowselfdrive Sykes Cup at Elland’s Hullen Edge ground.

It was one of three trophies Swaine won last season.

The first-round draw is: Elsecar v Woodhouse Grange, York v Shepley, Beckwithshaw v Townville, Cleckheaton v Hoylandswaine.

Semi-finals: Cleckheaton or Hoylandswaine v York or Shepley, Elsecar or Woodhouse Grange v Beckwithshaw or Townville.
