Edgerton and Dalton’s overseas player Mahmadsoyeb Gheewala made a flying start to the Arrow Huddersfield Central League campaign.

As the programme was somewhat curtailed by the weather, Gheewala’s unbeaten knock of 64 ensured that his club got of to the best possible start in the Premier League.

At home to Woolley the Edgerton side made a strong start as the visitors batted first with Fakir Laher, four for 23, and Muhammad Waqar-Uz-Zaman, four for 13, ousting their rivals for 125 – Mark Nottingham the top scorer with 39.

The home side’s replay was led by Fakir’s knock of 38 before Gheewala took them over the finishing line for a seven wicket victory.

Heckmondwike and Carlinghow were also first day winners as they beat Nortonthorpe by just five runs.

Home side Heckmondwike set 160-8 with Matthew Crowther top scoring with 30 as Peter Spark took four for 22, and in reply Nortonthorpe could only reach 155-9 despite Oliver Cosgrove (44) and Peter Hird (39) leading the charge – Usman Qureshi taking four for 31.

Silkstone also held on well for victory as they set 140 and they ousted home side Green Moor for 134 for a six run win.

Luke Whitmore hit 34 for Silkstone as Sam Askey took five for 17, Green Moor’s James Bates top scored with 44 while all-rounder Whitmore took four for 20.

Holmbridge were also first day winners with a seven run success as they set 80 at Mount and the home side were then bowled out for 73.
