SHEPLEY’S Danny Glover leads Huddersfield’s Under 21 side into battle at Lascelles Hall on Sunday when they clash with the Aire/Wharfe League in the semi-final of the Heron White Rose Trophy (1.30).
New team manager Norman Clee has selected a strong 12-man squad for the tie, but has to make one major alteration after wicketkeeper Sam Haigh, from Shepley, damaged a finger during last Sunday’s Sykes Cup defeat to Honley.
So in comes Elland’s Gregg Finn, who for the second time this season finds himself stepping into someone else’s shoes, having taken over as gloveman at Hullen Edge following an injury to first choice stumper Joe McNamara.
And Finn has acquitted himself very well, keeping to a strong Elland attack, spearheaded by Indian spinner Maddy Acharya, Craig Fletcher and Danny Rhodes.
Rhodes and Rob Laycock make up a three-strong Elland contingent, while Glover is joined by his Shepley teammate Tom Denton.
Marsh Lane opener Denton scored a half century in the previous round against Doncaster and Sheffield, while Kirkburton’s Andrew Smith also notched a half-century, and in-form Kexborough batsman Adam Wiles made an unbeaten 39.
Sunday’s squad is:
Danny Glover (capt), Tom Denton (both Shepley), Adam Wiles (Kexborough), Andrew Smith, Richard Kettlewell (both Kirkburton), Tom Graham (Scholes), Danny Rhodes, Rob Laycock, Greg Finn (all Elland), Sean Alderson (Clayton West), Adam France (Golcar), Will Hinchliffe (Meltham).
Huddersfield’s Joe Lumb Cup side are also in action on Sunday when they tackle the Pontefract League at Whitley Bridge (1.00). The team, to meet at the ground at noon is:
Ben Raven-Hill (capt) (Meltham), Sam Scott (Shelley), Jonny Butterfield (Clayton West), Charlie Roebuck, Ben Burnett (both Broad Oak), Ashley Brothers (Shepley), Nick Taylor (Marsden), Joe Sykes, Danny Whiley (both Thongsbridge), Richard Love, Nick Sharp (both Scholes).
