IF YOU want to watch some of the best Drakes League cricketers of the 2013 season then get to Golcar on Sunday, July 21.

For the Swallow Lane club are organising a Pro Single Wicket competition with a £250 prize for the winner and £100 for the runner-up.

The Premiership club envisage it being a family day out with barbecue, kids games and bar throughout, while the focus on the pitch will be hot competition between 16 leading Drakes entertainers.

Golcar captain and organiser Steve Whitwam explained: “We’ve got some of the top players in the district already committed to taking part, although one or two might end up having to play for their clubs nearer the time because of cups.

“Whatever happens, though, the final line-up of 16 will be well worth watching and we intend to make it a great day of cricket entertainment for the family with all the usual attractions and music.”

Niall Lockley from Elland and Gurman Randhawa – Kirkburton’s Yorkshire Academy all-rounder – are two of those taking part, along with Golcar’s own overseas signing, Cameron Fletcher.

Honley’s Simon Kelly, who is pushing Whitwam hard at the top of the run-scoring list with his 609 so far to the Golcar ace’s 626, will also be on duty, along with Chris Morton from Holmfirth, Kirk Thompson fromPaddock and Chris Case from Emley.

Rhys Phillips of Broad Oak is on the list along with Kiwi duo Joe Carter (Scholes) and Sean Davey (Slaithwaite), while Carter’s Chapelgate teammate, Australian Pete Sceresini, is also taking part.

“The plan is to run it as two overs each for the first couple of rounds and then maybe four overs for the semis and final, with Golcar lads fielding all the way through,” added Whitwam.

The club are looking to complete a quality entry and anyone who would like to register their interest can do so at www.golcarcricketclub.co.uk, going to contact and then filling in the form.
