HOYLANDSWAINE captured their first piece of silverware this season when they coasted to an eight-wicket victory over Cawthorne in the Fired-Up Paddock Shield final.

The Second XI contest was over and done with in double quick time after visitors Cawthorne were bowled out for 110 in just 24 overs – and it would have been even sooner had it not been for a battling 57 from William Mott, who came in to bat at No8 with his side reeling on the ropes.

Jack Lockwood ripped out Cawthorne’s middle order with four for 50, while Josh Bird took out the two openers and then came back to grab another two victims to finish with figures of four for 37 from nine overs.

And there was just time for Josh Holmes to get his name on the bowling board with two for seven.

With the exception of Mott’s excellent effort, only three other players just got into double figures.

Ryan Bagshaw gave Frank Platt Championship Two title contenders Cawthorne brief hope when he caught and bowled opener Stuart Wilson for just three, but by the time the visitors tasted their next success – Bagshaw holding a second catch to get rid of Dan Hoyle off the bowling of Andrew Kaye – the game was all but up.

Skipper Rob Nicholson used a six-pronged bowling attack, but it proved well beyond them as Hoyle (43) featured in a match-winning stand with Ryan Copley (56 not out) as Hoylandswaine strolled home in the 25th over.
