Hoylandswaine missed out on the chance to put extra pressure on Drakes Premiership Two leaders Kirkburton.

While Burton came unstuck against Barkisland in the second half of the top-flight double-header, so did Hoylandswaine as they went down by just eight runs against Cawthorne.

Darren Lockwood was again in form for Hoylandswaine, hitting 66 as they chased a Cawthorne total of just 123 all out, but nobody could stay with him and their hopes of victory were wrecked by Arron Pratt with five for 14 in 11 excellent overs.

Chris Hoyle had earlier taken five for 11 for Swaine, with Pratt scoring 26 and Corey Roebuck 28.

Burton crushed Scholes on Saturday but failed to match that form at Woodfield, where Barkisland put up 231-7 thanks to a cracking 124 from Luke Bridge. Gavin Smith was the best of the visitors’ bowlers with three for 43 from 12.

In reply, David Greaves got Burton off to a decent start with 42, but it was only a spirited 61 from Darren Lindley at No9 which carried them up to 175 all out and they were never in danger of winning.

Kirkburton are six points clear at the top of the table with two matches to play.

On the final day of the season, it could be winner takes all as Swaine host Kirkburton at Haigh Lane!
