THE Huddersfield Billiards and Snooker Association will launch a new season on September 27 and with it a new name.

Following further input from sponsors ME Consultancy Ltd, the League will in future be known as the SMileS Billiards and Snooker League when the new campaign kicks off with the Open Snooker competition on that opening Thursday.

League treasurer Paul Rayner said: “We are delighted that ME Consultancy have agreed to an extension of their sponsorship of our League.

“They first came on board in 2003 on a three-year deal, but have now pledged further support for the League. It is nice to have the backing of a successful local company, and we are looking to working with them closely in the future.”

Company director Mark Evans said: “It’s been a busy year for us with many businesses starting to benefit from the power of SMS (text messages), and we are proud to announce the continuation of our sponsorship of the SMileS Huddersfield Billiards and Snooker League.”

This season, the League will present two new trophies, dedicated to the memories of Paul Hunter and Tommy Donlan.

The Paul Hunter Memorial Trophy will go to the player making the season’s overall highest break in the Snooker League, while the Tommy Donlan Memorial Trophy will similarly be awarded to the highest break in the Billiards League.

The League handbooks will be available for collection from Marsh Liberal Club this coming Monday, September 17.
