BROAD OAK’s Jack Hargreaves turned in an excellent all-round performance to help Huddersfield’s Joe Lumb Cup side to a 23-run victory against Barnsley at Scholes.

Skipper Hargreaves hit four sixes and six fours in an 88-ball 79 as Huddersfield totalled 270-6 in their 50 overs, sharing a fourth-wicket stand of 97 with Gurman Randhawa (39).

Hargreaves then bagged seven for 43 in 12.4 overs as Barnsley were out for 247.

Charlie Roebuck made 42 at the top of the Huddersfield order and with Alex Kemp and Josh Clarkson (both 23), the side made an imposing total.

Barnsley were immediately in trouble, falling to 18-2 and 51-3, but a fourth-wicket partnership of 140 in 21 overs between Kexborough’s Michael Jepps and James Green put them right back in contention as favourites.

Jepps hit eight boundaries in his 104-ball 63 while Green had five sixes and 10 fours in his rapid 90 (55 balls), but the return of openers Hargreaves and Max Gummerson was decisive. Hargreaves, in fact, had seven for 21 in 5.4 overs in his second spell.

Huddersfield next play Craven District at Kirkheaton on Sunday, June 8.
