SHAUN DAWSON took three for one as Upperthong B secured a dramatic tie with Honley in the Sellars Junior Cricket League Under 13s.

The 11-year-old completed his haul as Honley lost three wickets when needing only one to win against their Holme Valley rivals.

Dan Parr was also among the wickets for Upperthong, who had totalled 47-9 before dismissing the home side for the same score.

Another close game was at Green Moor, where Rastrick failed to overhaul the home team score by four runs, with Bradley Roebuck top scoring for the Moor with 26 and Nathan Clarke and Raul Kumbani also in the runs for the visitors.

Most teams found scoring runs difficult in soft conditions and only three teams exceeded the 100 mark – Lepton the best with 118. Jacob Mulhall, Rob Walker and Louie Hall all retired for Lepton.

On the bowling front, Fizan Ali of Paddock took five wickets for four runs in bowling out Holmbridge for the day’s lowest score of 29.

One disappointing element of the Under 13 start was that six clubs – Mirfield, Scholes, Skelmanthorpe, Almondbury Wes B, Holmirth B and Meltham B – were unable to raise teams due to football and holidays.

Only one fixture was played early to try to overcome these difficulties, despite that being suggested to the clubs at the April pre-season meeting.
