OPENING bowler Jason Kilner celebrated a hat trick for Kirkburton Under 13s.

In his opening over of the win against Denby Dale – who were struggling for a team because of football and summer rugby – he clean bowled two opponents and had the third stumped by George Whittaker.

Hall Bower had a trio of players with three-wicket hauls – and still lost to Cumberworth.

Sam Baxter, Daniel McGowan and Harrison Booth were the bowlers in form for the Bower as they dismissed Cumberworth for 98.

But the Bower batsmen could not match that form and Lewis Palk did the damage with three for nine to leave Cumberworth the winners.

Top wicket-taker was Matt Stansfield of Broad Oak, who claimed four victims.

There was a very close game at Elland, where the home team failed by one run to reach the Upperthong A total of 85.

Meltham just got the better of Clayton West thanks to some rapid middle-order scoring of 47 from four overs – after they had reached the half way mark on only 27 in 10 overs (Callum Greenwood retiring on 27).

Only two clubs were unable to raise a team, but unfortunately Almondbury Wes B have had to pull out of the League due to shortage of players. This leaves 13 clubs in Area B and one club without a game each week.

In the preliminary round of the Cup, there were wins for Lascelles Hall, Upperthong A, Kirkburton, Hall Bower and Marsden.
