Kirkburton are the proud champions of the Drakes Premiership Two.

The Riley Lane second XI cannot be caught by nearest rivals Hoylandswaine at the top of the table with just one match to play.

Burton secured the Johnson Cup with a crushing eight-wicket home victory against Broad Oak, who were skittled for 95 thanks to a five for 33 haul from experienced left-arm spinner Rob Kettlewell, who was the top bowler in second-team cricket’s highest tier last season when taking his wickets at 11.06.

Nick Wilson with 51 and David Greaves with 30 then ensured Kirkburton had no trouble reaching their target at 96-2 and sealing a third title success in the last five seasons.

At the bottom of Premiership Two, Elland travel to Broad Oak in Saturday’s final programme looking for the win which would prevent them becoming the first Hullen Edge team to be relegated in over half a century.

In 1960, the first XI went down and took the Seconds with them (that’s what happened under the old rules).

They stayed down for two seasons but, in 1962, Elland Seconds won both Section B and the Paddock Shield.

Elland have 38 points, the same number as Golcar, who entertain Slaithwaite in their final fixture – Meltham are already down.

Shepley, who lead by just one point, are promoted from the Frank Platt Championship Two because nearest challengers Hall Bower and Delph play each other this coming weekend.

Shepley can clinch the title to add to the Fired Up Paddock Shield and Earnshaw Cup silverware they have already won by taking all six points at home to Shelley.

Moorlands are aiming to make it a debut-season double for the Mirfield club by matching their first team and winning Cedar Court Conference Two.

A point at home to Cumberworth will be enough to clinch the title ahead of promoted Thongsbridge and Paddock.

Cumberworth are fighting for promotion, however, along with Almondbury Wes, who visit Thongsbridge, and Almondbury, who travel to Paddock.
