A HISTORIC cricket club's pavillion has been destroyed by fire.

The building at Lascelles Hall cricket club, pictured below before the blaze, was engulfed by flames earlier today.

Fire crews were called at around midnight to the structure off Highfield Lane and at the height of the blaze four engines, including crews from Dewsbury and Mirfield, fought the flames.

Crews have been there all night and were still damping down this morning.

It is not known whether the fire was started deliberately or was an accident.

The club is believed to be the oldest in Kirklees having started in 1825.
