LEPTON travel to Almondbury Wesleyans A in the Under 13 Examiner Salver after a thrilling first-round victory against Upperthong.

Harrison Cowling took four for three for Lepton in restricting the home team to 54.

But then it wasn’t all plain sailing as John Birkhead replied with four for one and Will Clowes took three catches to put Lepton under pressure.

Top scorer for Lepton was Chris Taylor with 27, but from 44-1 they collapsed to just get home with eight wickets down.

Almondbury Wes B looked favourites after bowling out Golcar for 65, but just failed by six runs to reach the target with Tom Hinks making the top score for Wes with 25.

The outstanding individual performance of the day was by B Hussain of Almondbury who scored 25 and then took four for three in a very high-scoring game at Holmfirth.

Both sides scored more than 120 and only seven wickets fell in the day, Holmfirth going through despite the efforts of Hussain.

Second round, to be played on or before Friday June 6:

Rastrick v Golcar, Paddock v Crigglestone, Holmfirth v Kirkheaton, Almondbury Wes A v Lepton, Green Moor v Scholes, Kirkburton v Lascelles Hall, Upper Hopton v Meltham, Broad Oak v Thongsbridge.
