Linthwaite Seconds have been thrown out of the Fired Up Paddock Shield for playing an ineligible player.

The Colne Valley side committed the offence in their first-round victory over Cawthorne at Manchester Road, when they posted 141 before bowling out Cawthorne for 104.

Linthwaite have now forfeited the tie, to Cawthorne go thorugh and will host Golcar in the second round this coming Sunday, May 17.

There were some powerful individual batting performances in the first round with Michael Midwood hitting 124 for Elland in their win over Broad Oak, Zaheer Ahmed posting 102 not out in Birkby Rose Hill’s win over Meltham and Jamie Clayton getting exactly 100 not out in their success at Moorlands.

Young Jake Finch finished 102 not out in Barkisland’s win over Holmfirth, sharing in an unbroken opening partnership of 173 with Matt Bridges (59) while Martin Green of Honley maintained his prolific form with 102 in their crushing win over Shepley.

Scott Marsh was unbeaten on 97 in Hoylandswaine’s eight-wicket win at Clayton West.

There was one fantastic effort in the Jedi Sports Championship Two league programme, too, as Ali Sharaz hammered 165 for Almondbury at Meltham. His side posted 325-4 before restricting Meltham to 147, despite 97 from Simon Holmes.

In the Drakes Premiership Two, Daniel Hoyle hit 117 in Hoylandswaine’s big win at home to Cawthorne.

Delph have signed United Arab Emirates international Asim Khurshid as their overseas player.

The 34-year-old all-rounder was born in Lahore, Pakistan, but has played three T20 internationals for the UAE.

He made his debut against Ireland in Sharjah in March 2013 and then played against Netherlands.

His last appearance for them was in November 2013, again against Ireland, but this time in an ICC World T20 qualifier in Abu Dhabi.

With Delph having been rained off against Broad Oak, Khurshid made his debut in the Sykes Cup defeat at Hoylandswaine.
