Having been defeated by them in the arrowselfdrive Sykes Cup final, Scholes will be hoping Barkisland can do them a massive favour on Saturday.

The Woodfield side – who completed a stunning 14-run victory in the showpiece at Hullen Edge – are at home to Hoylandswaine in the Drakes Premiership.

Swaine, of course, are defending champions and Scholes’ nearest challengers for the Byrom Shield, but the Haigh Lane outfit are 13 points adrift with six matches to play.

If Darren Robinson’s Barkisland could inflict a fourth defeat of the season on Richard Wilkinson’s men it would be a huge tonic to Scholes’ title aspirations after their disappointing cup-final defeat.

As Premiership sides enter the competition for the Hopkinson Trophy – for first teams with the most points over the last six matches (excluding championship winners) – James Noble takes Scholes to their Holme Valley rivals Honley, who will be eager to inflict more pain at Far End Lane.

In the Jedi Sports Championship, Cawthorne will be promoted if they beat Marsden at Hemplow and both Clayton West (at Kirkheaton) and Thongsbridge (at home to Linthwaite) are defeated.

Cedar Court Conference leaders Rastrick sit it out this weekend – they have a free date because they were due to play the now-defunct Paddock – so Denby will be aiming to close the gap at the top to nine points with victory at home to Birkby Rose Hill.

After the thrills of the Sykes Cup final, Barkisland will be hoping for more glory on Sunday (1pm) when their Second XI entertain Honley at Woodfield in the final of the Fired Up Paddock Shield.

Scholes Seconds are at Woodlands on Sunday in the semi-finals of the Crowther Cup, with Harry Bryson’s side aiming to book a place in the final against Pudsey Congs on Monday, August 31.
