YORKSHIRE have signed Pakistani quick bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan from county champions Sussex as their next overseas player.

Rana Naved has been given a two-year contract (subject to him recovering from a shoulder injury) and will replace Australian Jason Gillespie.

Ironically, Rana ‘cut his teeth’ in England playing for Pudsey Congs in the Bradford League, before being spotted and snapped up by Sussex, whom he has helped win the county championship for the second year in succession.

Now 29, Rana has taken 139 first class wickets in three years at Hove, where he has been released following the new regulations which restrict counties to just one overseas signing next year.

Sussex – skippered again by Chris Adams who turned his back on Yorkshire last season after originally agreeing to come as captain – have elected to stick with leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, leaving no place for Rana who has played nine Tests and 62 one-day internationals for Pakistan.

Rana dislocated his right shoulder when crashing into advertising boards at Durham earlier this month, but has since had an operation and will be given a medical check in December.

Adil Rashid has won Yorkshire’s Young Player of the Year award, presented at the end-of-season dinner last night.

The nineteen-year-old top prospect scored almost 800 runs (ave 46.47) and took 40 wickets (39.45) to scoop the award.

Meanwhile, Jacques Rudolph was voted both the Player of the Year and the Players’ Player of the Year after topping the 1,000-runs barrier.
