RICHARD JAKEMAN gave up the wicketkeeping gloves and became Honley’s most successful bowler as they put one foot in the allroundercricket.com T/20 Trophy quarter-finals.
Defending a total of 160-6, Honley restricted Kirkburton to 144-8 in reply at Riley Lane, fourth-change Jakeman claiming three for 18 in his three overs.
Max Joice (35), Tim Taylor (38 not out) and Matthew Sykes (44) did the bulk of the Honley run-scoring while Greg Buckley (53), Iqbal Khan (33) and Jonny Butterfield (26) couldn’t quite get Burton close enough.
While Honley top Group III, Delph, Barkisland and Hoylandswaine are leading the other sections after also recording second successive wins.
Dan Jones and Kevin Hook each took three wickets – the latter with the only four deliveries he bowled – as Holmfirth were bowled out for 79 in reply to Delph’s 165-5 in which Irfan Zahoor hit 35, Hook 23, Faisal Butt 41 and Jamshad Ahmad 29 not out.
For Barkisland, Darren Robinson picked up three for 14 and both Johnny Whiteoak and Lorenzo Ingram two wickets apiece as they pegged Elland at 99-9 in reply to 119-5. Greg Finn top scored with 30 for Elland while Ingram (40) and Richard Whiteoak (34) did the bulk of the damage for the visitors.
Michael Cranmer ensured Hoylandswaine’s success against Scholes with four for 14 and a terrific catch to dismiss Tommy Boorman as the visitors were removed for 130 in reply to 172-9.
Ben Potter (34), Ryan Robinson (30) and Don Bandula (31) did the business for Swaine despite three-wicket hauls for Louis Sykes and Tom Chadwick and two for 15 from James Noble. Joe Carter top scored for Scholes with 34, but Richard Wilkinson and John Sadler backed up Cranmer with two wickets each.
Shepley got themselves in the hunt in Group IV with a six-wicket win over Skelmanthorpe, who posted 129-5 thanks to AlexScholefield’s 63. Dan Wood (53), Greg Wood (36) and Liam Wiles (23) made sure there were no problems for the home side, who won in 13 overs.
Shelley had solid batting from Joe Sykes (26), Bilal Khiljee (41), Imran Malik (37) and Dale Winterbottom (28) to thank in overhauling Clayton West’s 163-3.
Alex Clegg (56) and Hywel Senior (59) provided the bulk of Clayton’s runs, Winterbottom taking two of the wickets to fall.
Steve Whitwam took five for 10 as Golcar dismissed Marsden for 89, Chris Coleman scoring 34 and Alistair Farrell 32. Golcar went on to a seven-wicket win.
