GOLCAR’S Darren Robinson made a great case for the Johnny Hunter Trophy, awarded for a match-winning performance of the season, when he cracked an unbeaten century AND took five wickets for next to nothing in the victory over Delph & Dobcross.

A haul of 16 fours and five sixes took Robinson to an unbeaten 124, while his fourth-wicket stand with Mick Illingworth (56) was worth 107 and steered Golcar to an imposing 273-4.

But Robinson had not yet finished with the luckless Delph & Dobcross, whose Sykes Cup semi-final against Skelmanthorpe never started yesterday after the heavy deluge, and will now be played next Sunday (1.30).

Golcar’s medium pace seamer sent Delph tumbling to defeat with a five for 15 return to complete a great day for the all-rounder.

Honley suffered only their second loss of the season, and once again it was against Shelley, who had inflicted an opening day reversal on the League champions.

Simon Kelly made 43 and Vishal Bhatia 37 not out as Honley posted 183-7 in a game reduced to 45 overs-a-side.

Three wickets for Harlon Haye had Shelley in a spot of bother at 124-5, but Peter Pickford quickly took it away from the visitors when he cracked an unbeaten 58 for a four-wicket win.

And Honley’s loss allowed League-leaders Skelmanthorpe to increase their hold at the top which they duly did with a seven-wicket win over Lascelles Hall, who now find themselves in trouble having dropped to third from botom of the Premiership.

At 143-9, the Hall failed to accrue a point and with an unbeaten 51 from Amit Dani (who had earlier claimed three for 22 from 13 overs) and 41 from Sarfraz Ahmed, Skelmanthorpe had both wickets and overs to spare.

Elland kept their outside hopes alive, being the latest club to inflict further misery on bottom club Scholes who crashed to 84 all out, and that despite opener Matthew Smith making 51, while Rob Laycock (four for 25) was the pick of Elland’s bowlers.

Lee Baxter (32no) and Ryan Robinson (48no) knocked off the requisite target in 18 overs.

Shepley continue to move up the table on the back of the Glovers’ bowling, and went sixth in after beating Micklehurst, thanks largely to Danny Glover, who took over where brother Craig left off last week, by bagging seven for 49 from 21 overs.

Slaithwaite did the hard work in keeping Emley Clarence down to 157 all out, Bilal Khilji’s 45 the top mark, but the visitors then folded to Khilji seamers and were shot out for 89, the ex-Micklehurst man finishing with six for 14.

In the Inter-Conference, Holmfirth bounced back to winning ways after last week’s upset to Broad Oak, and inflicted a heavy defeat on Linthwaite, who were sent skittling for just 50, as the two Iqbals moppped up the innings between them.

Javed Iqbal junior took six for 26 and his senior namesake four for 24 as Linthwaite crashed inside 16 overs.

Iqbal senior had earlier scored 75, putting on a century opening stand with Mike Bocarro (65) in a 199-7 total for the Cedar Court leaders.

The leaders in the Frank Platt Conference, Barkisland, were equally convincing as they hammered Almondbury by nine wickets, Adam Robinson taking four for 27 from 16 overs in the 100 all out total.

Paul Winrow then made a quick 72 not out in a nine-wicket win.

Broad Oak lost ground when they fell to an eight-wicket defeat to Clayton West.

Paul Van den Berg took six for 52 from 21 overs to restrict the Oak to 135-8, before Nick Sharp, recently transferred back to Clayton from Scholes, hit an unbeaten 63, while Stuart Rank made 44 not out in West’s winning reply.Marsden kept up the challenge to Holmfirth in the Cedar Court section as they beat Paddock by seven wickets, Martin Kyle scoring 38 after Paddock had been bowled out for 73.

Rastrick were another side to fall cheaply, Kirkburton knocking them over for 52 with Marc Acheson taking four for 28 from nine overs.

Earlier Tom Burkinshaw had made 58, four fours and five sixes as Kirkburton made 171-9.

Kirkheaton beat Kexborough with three wickets to spare, Keith Perumal making 35, while Lepton defeated Armitage Bridge by five wickets, Chamil Perera making 42 and taking three for 24 from 16 overs.
