BRIGHOUSE-based sports company Romida have won the contract to supply the Drakes Huddersfield Cricket League with balls for the 2008 season.

And the good news for clubs is that the Romida ball is £2 less than they were previously having to pay supplier Readers, which the League have used for many years.

Several clubs in the Drakes League were asked to test one of Romida balls at the end of the summer and most of the reports were in favour of switching to the new provider.

And providing they continue to win approval during next season, the League do have an option to obtain the Romida ball for a further two years at the same price of £15 each.

Romida, who already sponsor the League’s Sykes Cup knockout, as well as investing in the Huddersfield Junior League, are also providing balls – ORANGE ones – for the quarters, semi-finals and final of the Examiner Twenty/20 Trophy next season, plus coloured stumps for the final.

From the knockout stages each club will be issued with two balls per round.

There will also be a dozen balls for use by representative sides, while Romida are this year sponsoring the annual dinner, as well as providing prizes up to the tune of £500.

Clubs are reminded tickets orders must be in to the Executive Secretary by November 30th.

The guest speaker this year is former police chief Eric Jones, while Josh Daniels is the comedian. Tickets for the event, on Friday, January 18 are priced at £27.

This year’s annual general meeting, will be held at the Huddersfield Hotel next Wednesday, December 5, when League representatives will be asked to vote for a new Administration Secretary, following the decision of Philip Earnshaw to retire from the post.

Disciplinary administrator Leslie Duncalf is also stepping down this year, and it is believed the two roles will be combined to become the Administration and Disciplinary Secretary, for which one nomination has been received.

Bradford League club Queensbury are holding a reunion for anyone who has been part of the club, at Queensbury Conservative Club, on Friday, December 14 form 8pm.
