There's a four-team breakaway headed by Scholes at the top of the Premiership.

The Chapelgate side were made to battle all the way for a two-wicket success against previous joint leaders Honley, while the defending champions Hoylandswaine are now just a point behind after cruising past Barkisland.

Shepley remain firmly in toucn, too, after they took six points at Skelmanthorpe, who slipped to the bottom of the standings despite a six-wicket haul from Kiwi paceman Tony Goodin.

At Scholes, Honley were put in and, after a sound start in which Simon Kelly hit 50, they suffered a mini collapse as Tom Brook and brother Josh each took three for 54.

Danhy Howard with 38 revived Honley in partnership with Alec Jakeman and the hard-hitting Tommy Woodhead and they closed on 211-9.

Scholes were put firmly on course by a rapid 71 from the excellent Joe Carter, but when he was snared in the deep, Scholes also struggled to keep momentum.

Skipper James Noble picked off any bad deliveries, however, to finish with 42 after Toby Booth had added 31, and it was left to Adam France and keeper Richard Holmes to see their side over the line with just enough to spare.

They lead the table by just a point after West Indian quick Kesrick Williams took four for 54 alongside skipper Richard Wilkiinson’s three for 26 to ensure Swaine bowled out Barkisland for just 128 at Haigh Lane.

Jamie Summerscales with 39 and Kiwi Tim Seifert with the same score were the best of the visiting batsmen and that total was never going to be enough to test the powerful Swaine batting line-up.

Alex Morris was unbeaten on 73 at the end with SP Singh unbeaten with 47.

At Lidgett Lane, Shepley totalled 233-9 thanks to 76 from Aussie Christian Smith and 51 from skipper Danny Glover.

Shepley's Danny Glover.

Goodin’s six for 69 prevented any further damage for Skelmanthorpe, but Glover responded wth five for 28 to ensure the home side couldn’t really challenge, despite a fine 76 from Yaasar Imtiaz.

Broad Oak dropped into the bottom two after they were beaten at home by Elland, who put up 264-4 with the help of 76 from Robyn Broom, 58 from Benji Birkhead and 42 from Niall Lockley.

Kiwi Henry Cooper had 55 in reply and Johnny Greaves 46, but Joe Lumb Cup team spinner Siraj Sajid picked up three for 39 to help restrict the home side to 215-8, which was enough for a point.

Skipper Andrew Smith was again in top all-round form for Kirkburton as they beat Slaithwaite at Hill Top.

Smith took five for 10 and, with Tom Burkinshaw picking up three for 18, the home side were bowled out for just 97. Smith then hit 61 not out to guide his side to a simple nine-wicket win.

Greg Buckley fell two short of a ton for Delph and then suffered the disappointment of defeat at home to Moorlands.

Delph were bowled out for 206 as Aussie Chris Lloyd collected four for 58 and spinner David Winn five for 42.

Delph picked up two point for taking eight wickets, but after Will Binns had hit 45, Lloyd steered Moorlands to success with 30 not out.

Golcar mounted a terrific run chase to ensure six points at home to Shelley, who rattled up 276-8 with 65 from Abdul Wahid, 53 from Shahban Raheem, 43 from South African Sash Naidoo and 40 from Hasnat Yousaf.

Aussie Tim Welsford was again in the wickets with three for 99, while Will Hinchliffe took three for 91.

Steve Whitwam (82) and James Howson (48) gave the Colne Valley side a solid platform and, despite Naidoo taking five for 67, Welsford added 31 as Golcar clinched the win.

Cawthorne are top of the Jedi Sports Championship following a seven-wicket win at Almondbury Wes, who were dismissed for 137 as Chris Walmsley picked up four for 30 and Muztuza Hussain and Jake Rodgers picked up three wickets each. Liam Wiles hit 64 as Cawthorne powered home.

While leaders Rastrick didn’t play in the Cedar Court Conference, Denby are second after beating Birkby Rose Hill, level with Hall Bower, who beat Cumberworth.
