WATCH out Slaithwaite, Carl Fletcher is on the way!

The Holmfirth all-rounder hit six sixes in an over and took five wickets as his Premiership side went through in the Romida Sykes Cup, and now he’s eyeing a shot at Slaithwaite in the quarter-finals on Sunday, June 14, following last night’s draw.

Fletcher demolished troubled Micklehurst with 61 not out off just 17 balls – Tom Whittle being the unlucky bowler who went for 36 from just one over, a record for the competition.

A former Triangle club player from the Halifax League – he hit 1,028 top-flight runs for them in 2007 with 86 sixes and 86 fours (860 in boundaries) for an average of 60.47 – Fletcher took 27 off the next over he faced as well!

His blitz in the rain-affected, late-finishing second-round tie at Castle Lane took Holmfirth to 270-6, backing up excellent knocks from John Sadler (109) and skipper Gary Jakeman (88).

Fletcher then got to work with the ball taking a ‘five-for’ as Micklehurst were dismissed for 184.

Perhaps with his pedigree of six hitting, it should be no surprise that Fletcher also hit four sixes in one over off Steve Whitwam during the Bank Holiday Premiership defeat at Golcar.

Holmfirth are now targeting a place in the last four after the draw (made at Golcar) gave them a home tie against Slaithwaite.

The pick of the ties is at Hullen Edge, where Elland will take on joint Premiership leaders Scholes.

Romida Sykes Cup – Holmfirth v Slaithwaite, Skelmanthorpe v Hoylandswaine, Rastrick v Golcar, Elland v Scholes.

Spectrum Interiors Paddock Shield – Slaithwaite v Elland, Marsden v Kexborough, Scholes v Holmfirth, Broad Oak v Micklehurst.
