Skelmanthorpe Under 13s are proud winners of the Examiner Salver.

They scored an eight-wicket win against Kirkburton in the Sellers Huddersfield Junior League showpiece for their age group, which was excellently staged by Hall Bower.

Having won the toss and put Kirkburton in, Skelmanthorpe recovered from some early mistakes to bowl and field well and they restricted the Riley Lane side to 79-7 in their 20 overs.

Shaan Greaves took two for eight in his two overs, while Skelmanthorpe were assisted by three fine catches from Josh Megson.

Of the Kirkburton batsmen, Ben Wright was top scorer with 21 while Oliver Jepson added a patient 17.

In reply, skipper Charlie Auty – who also had a stumping behind the sticks – and Megson opened and, when the latter retired on 25, his side were nicely in charge.

Auty held things together after that, batting through for a vital 14 not out, and with help from Joe Aspinall (11) and Nathan Moorhouse (16) got Skelmanthorpe over the line at 81-2 in 14 overs.

Umpires Mike Onions and Mike Jagger voted Megson man-of-the-match for his bowling, excellent fielding and his 25 retired.

In the semi-finals, Skelmanthorpe had a nine-wicket win over Holmfirth.

Tom Clegg hit 25 retired but Holmfirth were able to post only 86-7 in their 20 overs due to some solid bowling and fielding from the eventual champions.

Skelmanthorpe booked their place in the final in just 15 overs, reaching 87-1 with Auty making 25 (he had earlier taken a couple of catches).
