ELLAND’S visit to Clayton West promises to be the ‘match of the day’ in the second round of the Romida Sykes Cup.
Newly-promoted Clayton will unleash their twin South African strikeforce of Pepler Sandri and Paul van den Berg on new Cup favourites Elland on Sunday week (May 18).
The 6ft 6in Italian-born EU passport holding Sandri is expected to make his debut at Lascelles Hall on Saturday prior to the Cup-tie the following week.
And with Van den Berg operating at the other end, the Back Lane side could test even Elland’s extended batting line-up.
The only other all-Premiership tie sends another of last season’s promoted clubs, Barkisland (first round conquerors of Honley) to Meltham.
Meanwhile, Slaithwaite’s reward for knocking out holders Skelmanthorpe is a second successive home tie, this time against Lascelles Hall, who will probably not be relishing the trip across town after what happened to the Cup holders.
Arrow Central League champions Hoylandswaine, who knocked out Conference side Linthwaite will find Micklehurst a tougher nut to crack, although they do have home advantage with the Cheshire club facing a lengthy journey.
The Conference sections are guaranteed one quarter-finalist, with Thongsbridge entertaining Kirkheaton, while the other three Conference clubs all have home advantage against top-flight opposition.
In the Spectrum Interiors Paddock Shield, holders Meltham go to Kirkheaton, while League champions Honley must visit Marsden.
Slaithwaite, who last night finally finished off Scholes in a tie which began on Monday, will visit Lascelles Hall.
The Hill Top side had made 222 over two evenings, but then dismissed Scholes for 75 to book their second round berth.
