EXPERIENCED is probably the best way to sum up the Second XI prizewinners this season.

Scholes stalwart Nicky Brook lifted the Premiership batting prize for the third time, while the Premiership bowing went to Honley’s Jamie Hinchliffe, who like Brook, has been a magnificent servant to his club for many years.

Brook’s League appearances were limited this season, although he did play several times alongside his sons, Tom and Josh, and still managed to accrue 574 runs from 13 innings with a top score of 114 and an average of 57.40. He really is quite prolific.

Hinchliffe, meanwhile, played a huge part in Honley lifting the Premiership Two League crown, his 51 wickets costing just 8.78 runs apiece.

Another ‘veteran’ to claim a single figure average was Rastrick’s Mike Jagger (manager of the Huddersfield Under 15 Taverners team) who bagged 31 wickets at just 8.19, to win the Conference bowling award, while Clayton West’s Andrew Thornhill was the batting prizewinner with 614 runs at an average of 47.23.

The wicketkeeping and fielding prizes were both won jointly.

The Hemingway Cup for the leading wicketkeeper went to two young players, Matthew Payne of Slaithwaite and Seb Allen from Holmfirth, each claiming a total of 22 victims.

Allen had 20 catches and two stumpings, while Payne (son of club chairman Chris) had just 17 catches but added five stumpings.

The fielding prize, with 12 catches was jointly won by Golcar’s David Woodhead and Honley’s Alan Cawtheray.
