THE Drakes League have five teams into the last 16 of both the Heavy Woollen and Crowther Cup competitions.
Only two are at home in the Heavy Woollen – and all five will do well to get through to the quarter-finals!
Delph & Dobcross were gifted a third round spot when Gomersal were unable to find a suitable date to play their second round game, and in the end were forced to concede to the Huddersfield League club.
Grant Jones’ side will now entertain Bradford League outfit Spen Vic in what promises to be a tough obstacle, while Barkisland play host to Mirfield Parish Cavaliers from the Central Yorkshire League.
Clayton West and Skelmanthorpe are both away to two more Central Yorkshire sides Townville and Birstall respectively, but Golcar probably have the hardest task when they visit Yorkshire League heavyweights Barnsley, who won the Heavy Woollen Cup in 2005 and 2006.
Current holders Wrenthorpe take on top Heavy Woollen area side Hanging Heaton, while Yeadon – conquerors of Lascelles Hall and Scholes – are away to Methley.
In the second eleven Crowther Cup, only Scholes have a clear passage to the third round and they will play host to Baildon at Chapelgate.
Lascelles Hall are the other Drakes side to have a home tie, but first they must dispose of Wrenthorpe for the right to entertain Barnsley in the next round.
The other three ties involving Huddersfield opposition are also either/ors, with Barkisland facing Woodlands for the right to tackle Buttershaw St Paul’s in the last 16, while Skelmanthorpe meet Delph & Dobcross in a re-arranged second round game, the winners then going on to face Wakefield Thornes.
And finally Kirkheaton must overcome Brighouse before winning the right to tackle Liversedge in the third round.
All third round games are scheduled for Sunday, June 8.
