HUDDERSFIELD begin their Joe Lumb Cup campaign on Sunday, with the toughest of possible starts – away to the Bradford League at Undercliffe (1.00).

And team manager Richard Dodson is still having to play a waiting game, as three members of his squad, including skipper Charlie Roebuck, may be in action for the Yorkshire Academy.

Roebuck – who scored a sparkling 109 last week against Harrogate – Gurman Randhawa and Callum Geldart are all in the Yorkshire set-up, but as of yet, have not been informed as to whether they are in the county’s academy team this weekend.

Dodson’s predicament is also weakened by the unavailability of Micklehurst’s Arron Lilley who is away having trials with England.

“Losing players of their calibre would weaken any team, but if the Yorkshire trio are called into action it gives an opportunity for others to step up,” said Dodson.

“We have strength in depth as a squad, and we have learned to compete every ball and the replacements are more than adequate enough to tackle a strong Bradford side.”

The full squad to meet at the Undercliffe ground at noon is:

Charlie Roebuck (Broad Oak capt); Callum Geldart (Denby Dale, vice-captain), David Hales and Tom Oakes (both Almondbury Wes), Sam Hall (Marsden), Josh Clarkson and Tom Barber (both Skelmanthorpe), Sam Denton (Shepley), Tom Brook (Scholes), Michael Smith (Kirkburton), Max Gummerson and Alex Kemp (both Thongsbridge), Gurman Randhawa and Matthew Simpson (both Lascelles Hall), Jack Hargreaves (Broad Oak).

Huddersfield’s White Rose side have found themselves without opponents on Sunday, after discovering that their intended opposition, East Yorkshire, had in fact NOT entered the competition.

Huddersfield therefore now have a bye in the first round and will take on the winners of the Wetherby v Doncaster & Sheffield League tie, on Sunday, June 8, at a home venue still to be decided.

Norman Clee is again the team manager after leading them to last year’s semi-finals where they lost to Aire/Wharfe at Lascelles Hall.
